Phoenix, AZ (Vocus) October 25, 2010

HCG Diet Direct releases tips for surviving Halloween while on Homeopathic HCG or HCG injections for weight loss. Halloween is a fun holiday. And it centers around candy! There’s not really a bigger “no-no” than candy when an individual is attempting to stick to homeopathic HCG or HCG injections for weight loss. Some dieters manage to make it through this particular holiday without falling off the HCG “wagon” so to speak.

How do they do it?

HCG Diet Direct urges dieters to embrace the following tips and hints to get through the coming Halloween:

1. Don’t hide from the holiday. Turning off your light and not handing out candy to the kids in the neighborhood is just mean. But it’s even more mean to keep your favorite chocolates or candies on hand and expect yourself not to have any. Instead make yourself buy candy this Halloween that is an all time “kid” favorite, but one that you won’t be overly tempted by yourself. Aim for smarties, dum dums and the like. Or if you happen to like those…purchase candy that will not tempt you to cheat.

2. It’s not ONLY about the candy. Find and then focus on other aspects of the holiday: spooky decorations, dressing up in costume. (Maybe even choose a costume with fake “teeth” so you have a readymade excuse for not eating any candy, etc. throughout the night.

3. Eat something “Fall” but not off plan. What can you eat that suits the theme, but doesn’t knock you off plan for the day? What about chili? The day before whip up a batch of HCG approved chili (chicken or extra lean ground turkey) and have it on hand so you are able to indulge in a bit of “season appropriate” eating on Halloween!

Dr. J. Ronald Willis of HCG Diet Direct said, “Holidays are by and far the most difficult times for most dieters. The key for many is to plan ahead. If you know what’s going to be happening and you have all your ducks in a row it’s not that big of a deal. Know before you head out to a certain event that you are going to have to politely decline some of the food offerings. And know that it’s okay.”

Homeopathic HCG weight loss formula is a rapid weight loss diet that can be used to achieve drastic weight loss without invasive procedures and with no known HCG diet side effects. It is one of the most healthy diets for weight loss. When dieters buy HCG they follow the included protocol. Oral HCG drops are taken three times daily and paired with a careful eating plan. The results of the standard 26-30 day program can provide an average of 1 to 2 pounds of weight loss per day.

San Diego (Vocus) October 22, 2010

Halloween is spooky for several reasons. For parents, the amount of candy their children are likely to consume scares them the most. San Diego pediatric dentist, Dr. Anthony J. Scoma, a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, senior attending at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego, and father to three of his own little candy monsters, has a few suggestions for dealing with the tricks all those treats can play on kids’ teeth.

“While I’d love to suggest that parents toss the Halloween candy and give their kids a different sort of treat, I know as well as anyone that it’s not even a remote possibility,” said Dr. Scoma. “Halloween is one of my kids’ favorite holidays and the collection of ridiculous amounts of candy is probably the best part. So, we try to use our common sense and stress moderation in enjoying what they’ve collected.”

Dr. Scoma encourages parents to inspect all candy collected by their children and discard any treats that look suspicious or appear to be tampered with or opened. Stickier candy, like gummy bears, taffy and caramels get stuck on and between teeth, making them harder to brush away and more likely to cause decay. Hard candies that stay in your child’s mouth for a long period of time subject teeth to an increased risk for tooth decay. If possible, these should also be eliminated from the candy stockpiles or strictly limited.

Dr. Scoma also recommends that parents regulate the consumption of candy. “Eating candy every day is detrimental to a child’s dental development and overall health,” explains Dr. Scoma. “Candy should be considered a special treat and not part of one’s daily diet.”

If a child is having a candy dessert one day, sugary sodas, juices and sport drinks should be traded for water to lessen the sugar overload and increase the body’s natural ability to wash away the extra sugars deposited by the candy. Drinking fluoridated water can also help prevent tooth decay.

When possible, candy and other sweets should be eaten at mealtime, according to Dr. Scoma. During meals, extra saliva is produced, helping to rinse away sugar and the acids produced by bacteria, “The foods your child eats affect not only their general health, but also the health of their teeth and gums. By eating sweet treats sparingly and along with a nutritious meal, you are fueling a healthy body and preventing tooth decay.”

Most importantly, though, Dr. Scoma encourages daily good oral health as an important part of a child’s total health. Help your children brush their teeth at least twice a day and after sweets with an ADA accepted fluoridated toothpaste and make sure that tight spots between teeth are properly flossed. Good dental practices at home supported by regular examination by a pediatric dentist will help to promote strong, healthy teeth and beautiful smiles.

“Parents can use their best judgment at Halloween and make eating the collected candy a fun treat,” said Dr. Scoma. “As long as they are actively involved in their child’s dental health and development on a daily basis, Halloween doesn’t have to be so scary.”

To further help parents in their efforts to encourage healthy mouths and strong teeth, Dr. Scoma has a Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program. For every pound of candy brought in to his pediatric dentistry practice in La Jolla, Calif., Dr. Scoma will pay $ 1 and the candy will be donated to the troops overseas. For more information on Dr. Scoma or his buy-back program, call (858) 551-9700 or visit http://www.scomapediatricdentistry.com.

With Halloween just around the corner, make a point to stop by Four Eyes Joke Shop at the corner of Main and Central Streets in Southbridge, MA. Four Eyes flagship store located, ironically, in the “Eye of the Commonwealth,” is housed in the very same building where William Beecher first made spectacles in 1833. A bit eerie, don’t you think?

Speaking of eerie, at Four Eyes Joke Shop you’ll find hundreds of costumes to choose from. As a proud member of the National Costumers Association, Four Eyes is committed to providing quality costumes to meet any budget. You’re sure to find something that suits your spirit and make people howl with laughter.

As you can tell from the store’s name, you’ll find more than costumes at Four Eyes Joke Shop. The Four Eyes family–Val and Al, and their fun-loving kids Alex and Kat–have worked hard to create a fall-on-the-floor-laughing atmosphere inside the store. They offer old-time joke favorites as well as thousands of gag gifts, practical joke and prank props, and magic. The focus of Four Eyes is good humor and fun for everyone. “Surprisingly, a lot of our customers are people in their forties and fifties. Maybe it’s because they remember what it was like to have a good laugh when they were younger,” said Val.

The Four Eyes family is one fun-loving bunch of folks. Their mission is to make sure that every visitor to Four Eyes Joke Shop leaves feeling good, feeling a little bit brighter and happier for having come into their shop. Four Eyes creed? If the soul made a sound, it would be LAUGHTER.

So plan to stop on by Four Eyes Joke Shop for all your any time, any kind party needs. Costumes—they’re not just for Halloween anymore!

On Saturday, October 25th, more than 500 costumed elementary school children and their parents attended the family-friendly Green Halloween Festival in Issaquah organized by the Issaquah Highlands Council. Kids enjoyed pony-and-wagon rides, carnival games, face painting, ghost stories, mad science, a hay maze and the choice of healthy vs. candy treats. While many parents try to instill healthy habits in their kids throughout the year, the dental group demonstrated that kids will choose healthy when given the choice.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 19, 2009

As families prepare for Halloween, they can turn to FamilyEducation for hundreds of creative homemade costume ideas, spooky activities and tips for making this year’s trick-or-treating fun and safe. With the popular parenting site’s Halloween Costume Finder , parents and kids can browse through creative and inexpensive ideas for babies, kids or groups.

Families can search the Halloween Costume Finder by type of costume, such as animals, famous people, food items, scary costumes, or ideas from TV, movies and books. They can narrow their search by gender, age or keywords to find exactly the right costume for this year’s celebration.

Parents who are stumped for ideas for this year’s costumes can spend some time looking at the Top 2009 Kids’ Costumes for Halloween on FamilyEducation. They’ll discover that with the popularity of the “Twilight” book series and numerous television shows, vampires are a big hit this year. And, of course, Harry Potter is still very much in fashion. When an idea in the slideshow strikes their fancy, parents and kids can link directly to the instructions for making the costume.

A Halloween mask is a great addition to any costume, and a slideshow on FamilyEducation features instructions for making a variety of different masks, from Martians to mice, using items families can find around the house.

“Halloween is a great time for families to get creative and have a lot of fun together,” said Jess M. Brallier, publisher, Family Education Network. “With the ideas on FamilyEducation, parents and kids can choose and make great costumes, turn their house into a haunted mansion, and play games and activities for a ghoulishly good celebration.”

After family members have selected their costumes, it’s time to decorate for Halloween. FamilyEducation offers crafty ideas for making any home a haunted house. Kids might want to make a “Ghastly Ghost” to hang on a tree outside and spook the neighbors, or a “Wicked Welcome” mobile that is sure to keep away those things that go bump in the night.

Whether they are planning a Halloween party or just looking for a way to spend some frighteningly fun family time, parents will find Halloween activities and quizzes on FamilyEducation to keep their kids and their friends entertained and spooked. In the Top 10 Halloween Activities, they will learn about great Halloween games, such as Walk on the Witch’s Hat, or discover instructions for making a bag for toting all the candy they score while trick-or-treating.

Families who are planning a Halloween get-away can discover the Top 10 Halloween Destinations on FamilyEducation and head off on a spine-tingling trip they’ll never forget. A trip to America’s witch capital, Salem, Mass., where they can visit the Witch Museum, House of the Seven Gables and the New England Pirate Museum, might fit the bill for families with older children. Parents of younger kids might want to check out Anoka, Minn. The self-proclaimed “Halloween Capital of the World” offers a month-long schedule of festivities, such as haunted houses and jack-o’-lantern contests, as well as an “Orange Tie” ball, food festivals and musical performances.

Candy is, without a doubt, the focus of every kid’s trick-or-treat mission, so Mom and Dad might want to consider handing out some cost-effective and unique alternatives to sweets this year. FamilyEducation offers ideas for creative treats and toys that might make your house the most popular on the block this Halloween. A full-sized candy bar gets gobbled up quickly, but fake fangs, glow sticks and scary stickers can provide hours of fun, long after the candle in the pumpkin has burned out.

FamilyEducation also makes pumpkin carving fun and easy with its Jack-O’-Lantern Creator . This interactive tool allows kids to choose eyes, noses and mouths to give their online pumpkins unique personalities and then print out templates to guide carving. Or they can print and color their customized creations to use as Halloween decorations.

FamilyEducation’s Halloween quizzes test the family’s knowledge of this increasingly popular holiday. With a “Halloween History” quiz, they can figure out how much they really know about this scary celebration or they can delve deeply into the world of gourds with the “Pumpkin Power” quiz.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) October 13, 2008

This mom believes kids are smarter than parents think. Insists children will be just as happy with a small treasure as with sugary treats this Halloween.

Last year, Corey Colwell-Lipson started a Halloween revolution in Seattle. Her idea, that this holiday doesn’t have to be all about conventional candy, has spread like wildfire and in 2008, six cities across the country, including Los Angeles and Phoenix, will be hosting Green Halloween events and raising funds for local non-profits.

Why pick on Halloween, some might wonder. It’s just one day out of the year. Can’t kids just forget about health and the planet for a single day?

“The problem is,” says Colwell-Lipson, “it’s not just one day. If it were, that might be OK. In reality, we are constantly celebrating. Whether it’s the biggies like Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving or the myriad individual celebrations that clog our calendars–birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, baby showers, office parties, family reunions, religious and ethnic holidays. Each one of these celebrated by millions of people creates problems. We’re not asking people to give up the fun of celebrating, only to consider the impact our traditional approaches might have and consider the alternatives.

“Last Halloween, even we were surprised by the overwhelmingly positive input from children about receiving alternatives to conventional candy,” says Colwell-Lipson. “It was the occasional parent who expressed doubt about our approach to making Halloween more child and earth-friendly.”

“In view of the childhood obesity epidemic, we are sending the wrong message when we dump handfuls of conventional candy into children’s sacks,” contends Tracy Bennett, executive director of Treeswing, the non-profit “host” of Green Halloween. “It’s appalling that the average child brings home 10 pounds of candy after making the Halloween rounds.”

Colwell-Lipson proved that children would be open to giving Halloween a healthy twist at a series of appearances around the Seattle area where the Green Halloween team exhibited alternatives to conventional candy to more than 20,000 children. Not a single child between the ages of two and sixteen, Colwell-Lipson asserts, said they would be disappointed if they found in their bag, one of the treasures or healthier items displayed on a board.

So what are some of the alternatives to traditional treats? Visit http://www.GreenHalloween.org for dozens of suggestions (as well as hundreds of ideas on greening up costumes, décor and more). Here are a few favorites:

•Feathers (this was a favorite of children of every age)

•Organic honey sticks (not for children under age two)

•Play dough in individual portion containers

•Captain Teao’s organic Tea for Kids

•Games for Your Brain Ocean Cards (one card per child)

•Organic fruit leather

•Pencils made from recycled money

•Spooky S’mores flavor Clif Kid™ Organic ZBaR™

•Seed packets

•Stamps from foreign countries

•Polished rocks

•Yarn bracelets

•Fortunes and jokes you write on strips of paper and place inside empty walnut shells, then wrap with string so they close

•Soy or beeswax crayons

From the Seattle area last year, Green Halloween® has gone nationwide this year. “Official” Green Halloween locations with their own special events are:

•Bay Area, CA

•Canton, CT

•Daytona Beach, FL

•Los Angeles, CA

•Phoenix, AZ

•Seattle, WA

In cities not listed above, people will be incorporating Green Halloween® ideas into their celebrations. Families, schools, neighborhoods, churches, organizations and businesses will be greening up Halloween by organizing costume and décor swaps, handing out alternative “goodies”, composting pumpkins and more.

Green Halloween is a program of Treeswing, a Seattle non-profit working to reverse the trend of childhood obesity. Through innovative programs and partnerships, Treeswing improves the health of children and is working toward building generations of healthy, active communities.
Top sponsors for 2008 are Crayons Beverages, Washington Oral Health Foundation, Puget Sound Energy and Overlake Hospital.
